HEALTH BEGINS IN YOUTH

ABOUT US
Kids In Nutrition (KIN) is committed to enhancing food equity, promoting sustainable systems, and improving health for at-risk youth and families through food literacy and food access. Recognizing that children develop lifelong habits by the age of nine, KIN's mission is to enhance knowledge of nutrition and food systems and inspire positive food preferences during their formative years. Our primary focus is on marginalized communities, where educational and health disparities in low-income areas contribute to a disproportionate risk of chronic diseases. Early food literacy plays a pivotal role in instilling healthy and sustainable dietary habits that carry into adulthood, thus building a foundation for:
Chronic Disease Prevention
Health Equity
Environmental Sustainability
By mobilizing existing local community resources and spearheading grassroots change, we empower individuals to be part of a movement that will directly impact themselves, their peers, and future generations.
EDUCATION
KIN empowers the younger generation to lead healthy and sustainable lives through nutrition and food sustainability education. Teams of university volunteer instructors visit local elementary classrooms (in-person or virtually) to teach once a week for seven weeks. Lessons are evidence-based and include interactive visuals, hands-on games, physical activity, and group work. Our mission focuses on getting kids to think about how their individual dietary choices impacts themselves and the world around them. Our peer-to-peer mentorship model exerts a powerful influence on behavior change by making nutrition and food sustainability topics relevant and engaging.
